The intent of the History Curriculum

Through a coherent approach to the teaching of history, the curriculum is designed to enable pupils to have a historically grounded understanding, which they can recall effectively, of historical concepts such as Parliament, Monarchy, trade and people. As the children progress through the school, they will accumulate more knowledge of these concepts in different contexts including local, regional, national and international history; between cultural, economic, military, political, religious and social history. They will gain a deepening grasp of the chronological order of eras and events. The curriculum structure includes questions which provoke children to use historical disciplines such as causation, change and significance.
