Welcome to Oak Class!

I hope you had a wonderful summer holiday and are ready for an exciting year ahead! This page will provide you with useful information, but please feel free to see me at the end of the day or send an email via the school office if you ever want to ask anything.

Teachers, TAs and other adults

Oak Class's teacher is me, Mrs Jones. We are lucky to be joined on Monday and Tuesday mornings by Mrs Fidge. On Mondays, Mrs Fidge will take groups for interventions and to stretch and challenge, and on Tuesdays she will take the whole class while I have my planning time.

Our wonderful class TA is Miss Arnone, who will support the children as well as take them out for interventions. 

In Term 2, we will also be joined by Ms Chubb one morning a week. She will be hearing readers and giving extra support to small groups. Ms Chubb is my mum and a retired teacher, so brings lots of experience! She had a knee replacement at the end of August, so is still recovering, but is looking forward to joining us as soon as she can.

PE - Mondays and Wednesdays

This term, we will be doing Multi-Skills on Mondays (led by Mrs P from Canterbury Academy) and Fitness on Wednesdays. 

Please ensure children wear black bottoms, a black jumper/hoody, a white t-shirt and trainers.

Reading

Reading regularly continues to be just as important in the older years as lower down in the school. Children in Year 5 and 6 should read for at least 15 minutes every day at home. Reading records have been given to each child with their current reading range written in them. The reading records are for three things:

1. For adults at school to record when they have heard a child read.

2. For adults at home to record that their child has read (just a date, title and page number is fine). Children will receive a house point for each time an adult at home records reading.

3. For children to record their quiz score once they've finished a book. 

On Fridays, we have a session called 'Chatter-books' where children are welcome to bring in a book from home to share with their friends.

Spellings and Times Tables

This year, we are using Spelling Shed to teach spellings. Spelling practice will take place daily at school. Children will be given a range of activities to complete throughout the week to improve their spelling and handwriting skills. Please see the Spelling documents below which show the overview for the whole year.

Regular practice of times tables is essential in upper Key Stage 2 to ensure success in many areas of maths. Children will have the opportunity to practise at school using TTRS, which they can use at home as well, and during sessions with Mrs Fidge on Tuesdays. 

Topics

Our weekly timetable is at the bottom of the page. Please be aware that there may be days where the lessons need to be different due to staffing. I will make sure children who need support with change are told about changes when they arrive in the morning.
