Vision and Values

We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.

Romans 12:5

Our school is in Selling, a small village situated between the historic market town of Faversham and Sheldwich in Kent. We are lucky to be surrounded by orchards and beautiful views of The Downs and we are very proud of our school.

Our staff and pupils share a strong belief in the values and ethos of the school and we are all proud to be part of it. Selling CE Primary School is part of Our Community Multi Academy Trust which means we are able to share expertise with our other schools in the Academy including best practice and resources, allowing us to raise achievement and standards throughout the school.

Our Vision:

Our small school seeks to welcome all. We work together as a family to ensure everyone knows they belong within our inclusive and nurturing environment. Children flourish in our school because of the enriching curriculum opportunities, high expectations and celebration of the outdoors, arts and sport. We value learning and curiosity, celebrating individuality so that all are enabled to identify and follow their passion. Guided by biblical teaching, we serve our community and strive to live in harmony by showing love and compassion to one another and our neighbours.

 The aims of our school:

  • For children to enjoy school and learning;
  • For children to develop a moral sense of responsibility and self-discipline;
  • To work closely with children and parents in the pursuit of the  highest standards;
  • To develop children’s own strategies for learning and improving;
  • To deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that reflects the needs of our children;
  • To encourage all members of our school to develop their personal understanding of Christianity and Christian Values by daily collective worship, example and teaching
  • To further develop our close links with our local church and community.

Our Christian Values:

We aim to teach our values throughout the curriculum and as part of our everyday school lives.

Perseverance, Compassion, Forgiveness, Umunthu

Umunthu – concept taught in Malawi from toddler age

  • I belong, therefore I am

  • You are human, just like I am

  • It speaks directly to the subject of cultural diversity and hospitality

Our Bible passage is taken from Romans 12:4-18

4 Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5 so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.

6 In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. 7 If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. 8 If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

9 Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. 10 Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. 11 Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. 12 Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. 13 When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. And get into the habit of inviting guests home for dinner or, if they need lodging for the night.

14 Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them. 15 Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!

17 Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. 18 Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.

Selling CE Primary is a friendly and happy place where all children enjoy learning and can achieve great things.
